2004Recasting the Past: Digital Histories27th November 2004 IntroductionIn November 2004 the AHC-UK hosted its annual one day conference in association with The Royal Historical Society. The conference theme was 'Recasting the Past: Digital Histories' with 20 papers presented by historians, graduate students, archivists and information professionals' form as far afield as Canada and South Africa as well as the UK. The conference was held at The National Archives in Kew, London. ThemeThe aim of the conference was to explore how the ever increasing number and variety of digital and electronic sources have changed the way in which history, and historical sources, are created, selected, researched, taught, written, presented and used. Even historians who do not use computer methodologies are likely to encounter sources in digital form or have their access to analogue sources mediated electronically. Whilst the digital form can transcend the constraints of time and space it brings new problems and challenges to historians and historical research.
